Nationally recognized artist Ferne Jacobs will lead an all-day exploration of twining and knotting.
We will explore creating two and three dimensional shapes, discussing its near-universal appearance in early civilizations through today. Beyond focusing solely on the practical steps, this workshop will encourage individual expression and discussions about creativity and inspiration.
Ed note: I attended the Coiling Workshop this spring, and will say that the conversations about art and the art process and the parallels to how we create our lives, and how we build a relationship with ourselves through art, were special. I was also struck by the individuality of the students’ work and process: the breadth of responses as each student began to master the technique and then wandered down their own paths of form-making. The workshop truly was a treat – we hope you’ll join us for this next session!
Ferne Jacobs' work is in the collections of the Smithsonian, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and others. She has lectured and taught widely throughout the United States and has a particular interest in helping students to not only learn the techniques involved, but also to identify and explore their own creative interests.
Workshop will be held in Ferne Jacob’s Silver Lake home. We will email an address to all confirmed students.
