“I’m interested in trying to tell stories that can empower people to make choices about the futures that they want to live in…”
— LIAM YOUNG
Liam Young, architect-filmmaker-futurist, lays out a remarkable vision in his new film and book, Planet City, showcasing a future world in which flora, fauna and humankind coexist in the Anthropocene, divided between an uber-megalopolis and a “new national park of the world.”
Young will talk about his visionary thought experiment -- and the questions it poses about the environment and our place in it -- with Frances Anderton, design writer, and Benjamin Bratton, Professor of Visual Arts at University of California, San Diego and contributor to the Planet City book.
He will also talk about his production design for the film which incorporates radical costuming developed in collaboration with Ann Crabtree, the costume designer for The Handmaid’s Tale and a collection of artists including Aneesa Shami, member of Textile Arts LA.
A book signing with Young and Bratton will follow the talk.
Planet City was commissioned by the National Gallery of Victoria for the NGV Triennial. Catch Young's TEDMonterey Talk here.
