Slow Fashion and Place-Based Economies
We love Craftsmanship Quarterly, so were thrilled when we saw they were featuring Rebecca Burgess in their latest podcast!
Below are notes from their intro text - link through to take a listen!
We're all aware that "fast fashion" is disastrous for our planet, not to mention the humans who live on it. It's clear the current system is unsustainable, but what are the best alternatives? The answers can get complicated, and importantly, they don't always address how "regular people" can support and participate in those alternative systems.
This week, to wrap up our Fall issue on The Future of Clothing, we bring you a special Craftsmanship podcast interview with Rebecca Burgess, founder and executive director of Fibershed. Rebecca sat down with Craftsmanship's audio producer, Chris Egusa, to talk about what she learned from spending a year wearing only clothes produced from within 150 miles of her home; why she's willing to work with large clothing brands while still advocating for a reboot of the entire industry; and why we need to take the conversation about pricing and privilege in clothing one step further.
I hope you'll enjoy listening to "Rebecca Burgess on Slow Fashion and Place-Based Economies." As with all of our audio offerings, you can listen or download directly from our site, as well as on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other popular streaming services.
